Is it worth having a podcast on an ecommerce site? Many might think this is a little too much work. After all, podcasts are a serious undertaking inandof themselves. If they are going to be any way successful then there needs to be a serious degree of work put into things like finding the right listener base, topics, and guests as well as seeing to all the duties involving production, editing, and so on.

Indeed, that’s what you need to have a successful podcast. However, as an ecommerce site setting up a podcast, you do have one advantage – you are not starting from scratch.

Well, you might be starting from scratch where the actual podcast is concerned, but not in attracting listeners. If you run an ecommerce site, you will already have a customer base. Moreover, if your marketing is up to scratch, you’ll be attracting people to the website already.

This gives the podcast something of a head start. Andas it happens, many ecommerce sites do tend to invest in podcasts sooner or later, and it’s a winning move if you want to grow your customer base and attract new interest in your brand and products.

That said, a podcast is still extra work, so this might well preclude the smallest ecommerce sites – or those just starting out – simply because all resources are directed more towards the business itself.

Nevertheless, just as things like investing in third-party fulfilment or expanding your inventory might be signs that your company is growing, the inauguration of a company podcast could well be a marker that operations are expanding and that the company is heading in the right direction. That is why so many ecommerce sites do it.

What Makes for a Good Ecommerce Podcast?

That’s a good question, and it is closely related to the title of this article. A good ecommerce podcast is one that will boost your sales, and it does this in a number of ways. The first thing it will do is attract new customers to your ecommerce site. The second thing is that it will provide a degree of customer education, which means teaching customers more about what you offerand thereby increasing the customer satisfaction when customers use your products.

Nonetheless, it is worth noting that these two things can potentially come into conflict – but there is a way of balancing. For example, a podcast which is entirely about your products will not attract many new listeners who are not familiar with them. And a podcast that has nothing to do with your products will not provide that customer education. Therefore, you need to balance these two things.

Plurawl, a company selling clothing and prints for the Latino community also produce a motivational speech Hispanic podcast on their site. This is a good example of how to do it well – make the podcast content related to the products, but not necessarily always about them.

For example, you may include a few episodes on topics that are related to your products and which mention them, but not episodes which are merely promotion for those same products.

The Importance of SEO

As a final point, it’s worth also mentioning the importance of SEO for attracting new listeners. You can research the right keywords that will help your podcast be found and include them in episode descriptions and in other places where text appears. If these are also keywords relevant to your products, then all the better!

This is how you boost sales with a podcast – make it interesting but be sure to relate it to your products in some way too.
